5 Personal Injury Myths That You Should Ignore

December 18, 2014 by Jonathan Stein

Ignore these myths at your own peril. I found most of these by doing simple searches on Google. While I love Google, there are plenty of times when it leads you to websites that have nonsense on them. These myths will cause you issues!

1. THERE IS A MAGIC FORMULA FOR DETERMINING YOUR CASE’S VALUE

Despite what you might read on the Internet or in advertisements, from attorneys and non-attorneys, there is no magic formula. Each case is different and there is no substitute for experience. The popular formula is take your medical bills and multiply by three. Does that sound like it makes sense? No. Why not? Because if it was that simple, wouldn’t the insurance companies just use computers and fire all of their adjusters?

2. REDUCING YOUR MEDICAL BILLS AFTER SETTLEMENT IS GOOD

Some attorneys will tell you that they will reduce your medical bills after your case settles. Imagine how your doctor, who did not charge you when he treated you, will feel when he cannot be paid in full? This is not always what is best for you, especially if you have an ongoing relationship with the doctor. There is a time and a place for reducing your medical bills. but if the attorney tells you that he will reduce all of your medical bills, then this is a bad thing.

3. A PARALEGAL CAN HELP YOU

Paralegals cannot practice law or give you advice. A paralegal cannot file a lawsuit on your behalf. Only your or a licensed attorney can file a lawsuit in court on your behalf. A paralegal can fill out forms at YOUR direction. If you know what forms need to be filed and when, then why would you pay someone to do this for you?

4. INTERNET SERVICES CAN EVALUATE YOUR CASE

Internet services have a product to sell. But, it takes personal dealings to figure out what YOUR case is worth, not just a case similar to yours! If there was a way to evaluate your case without talking to you, the insurance companies would do it. But it requires talking to someone, asking questions, and figuring out the details of a case!

5. THE ADJUSTER IS YOUR FRIEND!

The adjuster is usually a nice person. But, he or she is not your friend. The ones who are the friendliest are the ones to watch out for the most!

Take these 5 myths to the bank. You should read this any time you have been in a car accident. An auto accident claim is dangerous if you fall into these traps!
