Letter about your coverages

August 8, 2006 by Jonathan Stein

In California, if you are in an accident, your insurance company is required to send you a letter explaining your coverages. The letter is simple: what coverages you have that apply to your claim.

Okay, that sounds simple. Apparently, it is much more difficult, although I do not know why. I read a letter today from an insurance company to a client. The letter did not list all of the coverages that applied and it had the wrong statute of limitations listed.

This is quite frustrating. Remember, if you are in an accident, your insurance company is obligated to tell you what coverages may apply to the claim. If they do not, then you need to ask them for the letter. You are entitled to know what coverages may help you!
