Insurance Company Ads

October 16, 2005 by Jonathan Stein

I really like watching the television ads from GEICO, Progressive, Allstate, and company. Allstate claims that people who switch to Allstate save an average of $300 plus per year. GEICO can save you 15% or more. 21st Century will save you money if you switch. Isnt it great?

Well, the only problem is that the people who switch insurance companies switch BECAUSE it saves them money. Allstate doesnt tell you how many people switched to other insurance companies because it was cheaper. They dont tell you how many people refuse to get coverage from them due to the cost. I know that I called an Allstate agent and they would not even quote me because they could not beat my current company.

I do have to give credit to Progressive. They will provide you with a quote, and the quote of other insurance companies. That is a real service. It pays to spend 10 or 15 minutes on their website and get a quote from them.

But, call around. Call the “direct writers” (GEICO, 21st Century and the like), captive agent companies (Farmers, Allstate, etc…) and brokers (people who look at many companies and can quote from a variety of insurance companies). Oh, and dont shop on price alone. There is so much more to look at. (Yes. I am saving that for another post.)
